Parent participation has a huge influence on children's development. It's good to hear a parent recognise their role.

EDIT372
Started EDIT372 at university today which is the web quest course. I have been so busy with work and study that I have not continued these studies, until now. I am excited again to be able to spend time exploring this subject.
It seems we have to create a web quest based on some actual Year 7/8 children's interests, so for the course I will create a theme others than rats. I have decided that I will continue my "Oh Rats!" web quest as a personal journey.
I have reviewed my previous home page and decided to make so changes to the layout. I hope they like my voting poll :-)

Internet Safety for children
These are some excellent sites for parents and teachers interested in teaching their children how to keep themselves safe online.
The Hector's World Safety Button provides a safety strategy which children can use if something on-screen upsets or worries them. It is a free download and a small file. Your child can just click on Hector who then covers the screen with a soothing underwater scene and gives the child a positive message for clicking on the Hector Button, and encourages them to get adult help.
I highly recommend put this on all school and home computers, but remember children must be taught how to used it and when.

Hector's World™ presents animation that feature residents of the undersea community of Silicon Deep. Children watch the characters as they learn how to stay safe online.

Writing the Web Quest
Well I decided to use Powerpoint as my software to start working on my web quest. (What is the "correct" spelling? I have seen them often as one one WebQuest!) The reason for this is I don't have Frontpage yet and PP is perfectly set up to arrange a website and create the structure. I believe you can put in hyperlinks, buttons, forms ect. in PP but I haven't got that far yet. I created templates for all the pages I want and have started getting content down. I am already very pleased with how it is looking.
The web quest is called "Oh Rats!" and is a Technology and English based web quest around rats. As I have rats I will take them into school as a real context! Cool.

My updated Website URL
http://shaunwood.bravehost.com/
I moved to this server as they are much faster and the ads are configured to run horizontal. For a few hours I struggled with the second layer of ads displaying after my headings! I eventually figured out that the ad code attaches itself to "body" &and "bg color" tags. So a bit of rearrangement and bingo! This really showed how having a a good basic understanding of HTML makes all the difference when you get stuck. Another trick is, if your web page is not displaying in the browser as you intended, click View on the browser, then Page Source. That will show you the HTML of the page and you can troubleshoot from there.
It has been so much fun figuring this all out!

HTML
I created my first web site written in HTML in Notepad. Unfortunately the free site I use to host it uses ads that mess up my hard work, still here it is. http://www.stormloader.com/users/shaunwood/
I loved learning all the tricks and spent hours trying different HTML I found on some really helpful sites. I even put on a poll! Getting a good understanding of HTML is going to be a huge help when I start using Frontpage. Still I am really impressed with my creation so far and I am finding it incredibly satisfying writing it in HTML.
Some lessons I learnt: Save, save and backup! HTML is very logical, like a puzzle, have fun and close your tags.
HTML coding and tutorial sites I recommend.
http://www.w3schools.com/default.asp - This is very clearly laid out and easy to use HTML.
